Walk Notes

Bus departs Aberdeen at 08.00am

Today’s walk starts near Blacklunans and climbs over Mount Blair before descending to join the long distance Cateran Trail which we follow to the Spittal of Glenshee.

 

Walk 1:-We start the main walk at a farm track near Blacklunans first heading Northwards and then NorthEastwards passing the farm of Borland on the left. Continue on the track which soon reaches the open hillside and at NGR158613 take the track on the left which heads North then NorthEastwards. Leave the track to climb up to the ridge to the North of Over Craig and continue Northwards to reach the summit of Mount Blair (744m). Descend Northwards on a path to reach the B951 road which we follow Westwards for approx. 0.5 mile/0.8km to reach a minor road on the right signposted “Cateran Trail – Spittal of Glenshee” NGR150642. We now follow the Cateran Trail Northwards which keeps to the east bank of the Shee Water to soon pass Dalnaglar Castle and continue to pass Dunmay, Glenshee Lodge, Westerton of Runavey and Tombi to reach the main A93 road. Turn left and soon right to take the road into the Spittal of Glenshee, cross over the hump back bridge to reach the bus which will be parked at a convenient place nearby.

Walk 2:-Those wishing to avoid the ascent of Mount Blair, should remain on the bus which will continue on the A93 then B951 to be dropped off at the minor road south of Dalnaglar Castle NGR150642. Follow the Cateran Trail Northwards to the Spittal of Glenshee as per notes above.

Distance approx.6.5 miles/10.5km.

Walk 3:-Anyone wishing to do a short walk could be dropped off the bus on the A93 Spittal of Glenshee road at one of the three bridges over the Shee Water to join the Cateran Trail to the Spittal. The bridge at Dalhenzean NGR128680 going to Glenshee Lodge would be approx. 3.5 miles/5.6km.
