O.S.Map 37 (Strathdon).

Today, we are back on Donside, to walk the hills near Glenbuchat. Our bus will be parked all day at a layby on the A97 Mossat to Strathdon road. Various walks are available here but Ben Newe is the main walk. Members who require a different walk should indicate their wishes with the committee member in charge today, so that early discussions can take place with the driver. They should do this before leaving the bus.

The main walk commences at NGR 397 139 at a large layby on the A97, just south of the Glenbuchat Valley turnoff. Go westwards on a zigzag track to a junction at NGR 393 140 on the SE side of Meall Beag (455m). Head firstly Swards then NWwards towards Ben Newe and finally SWwards around both the south and west sides of Hill of Greenstile (519m). At approx. NGR 377 138 head NEwards to gain the summit of Ben Newe (565m). Either retrace your steps back to the bus or walk Swards then NEwards along the edge of the forest following the track which turns Swards then SEwards back to the bus. Alternatively at approx NGR 391 145 head Nwards then Ewards to Glenbuchat Castle and back along the side of the road to the bus parked at NGR 397 139.

Distance approx. 7miles if returning by same route & around 5- 6 miles for the alternatives .

Bus departs at 2pm.
