Walk Notes

Today’s walk starts at the picnic area at Balkello Woods (NO 365537). From the car park, head north-east toward the edge of the woodland at NO 369390.  Follow the north-easterly track from here to meet another track at NO 370391. From here, head northwards over Balluderon Hill, then north-eastwards to reach the trig point on Craigowl Hill (NO 377 400). From here, retrace your steps to NO 375399), then head westwards to reach a view point at NO 362394. From here, take a westerly, then north-westerly track to reach a hill fort on Auchterhouse Hill (NO 355398).  Continue in a north-westerly direction to reach the forest at NO 346409.  Keep in a north-westerly direction to reach a track at NO 342411. Follow the track to NO 332416, then head north to the edge of the forest (NO 332419).  Follow the edge of the forest in a westerly direction to reach the trig point on Kinpurney Hill (NO 322417). Continue in a westerly direction to reach the Denend Burn at NO 312415).  Follow the burn in a roughly north-westerly direction to reach Denend; from here, turn left to follow the road into Newtyle, where the bus will be parked.

An alternative route is not suggested, but those wishing to remain on the bus to Newtyle can explore shorter walks from the village, including the disused railway line track which starts from the car park.
