Today’s walk is the final part of The Cateran Trail. This is a through-walk, so if walkers feel that they want a different walk, or shorter walk, please indicate your intentions with your committee member in charge of the bus. One possible shorter option would be to start at the Bridge of Cally.

We commence our walk at Alyth (NGR 245 488) and follow the signposts to clear the village. The track bends left and climbs on a path towards the top of the hill. Go through a gate and follow the path. Keep straight ahead, bear left at the next path junction. Continue to reach a minor road. Cross this road and follow the signs for Bridge of Cally. Head down a track to a stile and follow the lane between hedges. At a gate, head straight on and turn left onto a marked path and continue on this path until your route reaches a track. Turn right and bear right again past Banff House. Turn right and head towards Home Farm. Turn left and follow a track which eventually emerges onto a road. Turn right and then left at the next junction to cross rolling countryside. Where the road turns sharp left at a house (Heatheryhaugh), keep straight ahead to a farm track. A wooden “kissing gate” leads to a boggy path between fences. Cross a couple of double gates continuing in a straight line along a high ridge. At a “kissing Gate” the path emerges onto a track. Follow this downhill to a surfaced road. Turn right here and follow it past the houses of Netherton and crosses the Black Water bridge. At the A93, turn left and follow your route to Bridge of Cally. Cross the bridge and follow it up a track immediately after the hotel. In the forest, your route reaches a junction, where you re-join the outwards stage from Blairgowrie. Turn left. The walk soon curves right by some woodland. Keep straight on at all junctions. Eventually this track curves left and slopes down to meet a larger track. Turn right passing Middleton and soon crosses a bridge before climbing past West Gormack. Turn left onto a track until a stile and then follow a field. Follow the signs to another stile near a barn. Continue straight ahead until a minor road is reached. Turn left, head uphill turning sharp left at a bend in the road. Ignore a gate on the right and the road reaches a T junction. Turn left downhill, past Lornly Farm. Turn right past Bracklinn Mill and follow the riverside track until a signed flight of wooden steps is taken on the left to our bus at Blairgowrie (NGR 180 455). Walking distance approx. 16miles  Full details of this walk, including a route map can be found on the Walk Highlands website & there is a direct link to this site on our website.. Look under Perthshire then Dunkeld, Blairgowrie & Glenshee & choose this walk  from the Caternan Trail options.
