We had 31 walkers on the bus today, pretty good, although many of our regulars were missing. One member was picked up in Bucksburn. 3 new people joined the Club today – they had seen our walk displayed on the AHWC website and took it from there. Our customary toilet stop was at the car park near to Asda in Huntly before we headed to Buckie via Keith. This journey was slightly more in miles but, when we reached Findochty, it meant the large bus did not have a difficult tight right turn down to the harbour. Most walkers were offloaded here for our start point. 3 walkers went for a commencement at Cullen, Wendy and Kris stayed on the bus to get off at Portsoy harbour, to do their own thing from there. Not long after our start, we had a slight rain shower walking towards Portknockie, but it did not last long and rain jackets were off as we went from Cullen Seatown towards Cullen Harbour along the sea front. The onwards path was extremely boggy and slippery as we traversed eastwards towards the “giants steps”at Logie Head. The wet slippery path must have been due to the torrential rain on the previous day. Once over Logie Head and Sunnyside Bay, we had a fabulous view of Findlater Castle on its rocky outcrop before descending to the village of Sandend. We walked along its beach, as the tide was out, before our pick-up point at Portsoy. What a fabulous walk from west to east. It had taken us almost 5 hours to complete the 11 mile walk, but the views were terrific, the paths were slippery on the day, but this must be one of the best walks in the whole of the Moray Firth coastline.
