There  were 30 members on today’s walk, some were picked up on the Ellon Road and 1 at Tesco in Ellon where we had a comfort stop. The weather was dry and sunny, 3 members got off at Boddam, with the main group starting at Sandford Bay. We walked past the delerict Sandford Bay Lodge, built around 1800 and burnt down in August 2015. We walked through Boddam to join the old Boddam to Ellon railway track which was built in 1897 as a 15 mile branch line, it closed to passengers in 1932 and to freight in 1945 with the track being lifted in 1950. Some followed the coastal path round to the Bullers of Buchan while others followed the instructions on the route sheet. We walked past the ruins of Slains Castle and onwards to the bus at Cruden Bay. We had refreshments at the Kilmarnock Arms but had to run to the bus as the heavens had opened. We departed for Aberdeen on time at 3.30pm. Fiona
