On Sunday we had 22 walkers join us for our trip to Spittal of Glenshee, including two new walkers making their first outing with the club who were given a warm welcome from the group. The bus left Aberdeen on time at 08:00 and following a comfort break in Braemar arrived at Spittal of Glenshee at 10:20. The weather forecast predicted a day of drizzle, rain and low visibility for our location and alas it was spot on! The majority of our group (14) decided to tackle our main walk ascending the Munro Glas Tulaichean despite the adverse weather conditions. With visibility down to 100m or less on the higher levels and a constant drizzle half the group opted to retrace their route back to the bus after reaching the trig point at 1051m. The remaining walkers continued on the main walk route, descending to Loch nan Eun via a rough path and a short cross country section. After a muddy and somewhat slippery section descending from the outflow of the loch the walkers were rewarded with much improved scenery including several waterfalls and spectacular views along Glen Taitneach as they walked back to the start point. Congratulations to our new walkers Ally & Syamand for both completing their first Munro. The rest of our group (8) decided to follow our shorter walk route staying on the lower ground walking out as far as the Ruins of Glen Lochsie lodge before heading back via a well deserved stop at the Dalmunzie Castle Hotel for hot drinks and cake. By the time the last walker returned from the main walk somewhat wet but happy everyone was ready to head for home slightly ahead of schedule.
