There was a good turnout of 29 on today’s walk in the Loch Muick area. All 3 suggested routes were attempted along with a couple of variations. The weather was sunny and breezy as we left the bus but soon the tops were hidden by cloud. The rain forecast for late afternoon arrived early and the wind increased especially on higher ground. This forced many to change their objectives with most opting to retreat to lower ground. Two members managed to successfully complete the circuit of the 5 munros while another two managed 4 munros and two others achieved 3 munros. Seven climbed Lochnagar and two Broad Cairn and both groups met at the Glas Alt Shiel Bothy for shelter from the elements. Another group went up the zig-zag path at the Black Burn and returned by the streak of lightening path to the end of Loch Muick.
There were several Duke of Edinburgh groups doing their silver award and were going to climb Lochnagar, but the leaders abandoned the climb due to 60 mph winds forecast for the tops, but they still had to camp out that night!!
The first walkers were back about 2.30pm after doing low level walks. Everyone arrived safely back to the bus around 6pm, very wet and windswept as such we decided to forego the pub stop and return directly to Aberdeen earlier than planned. Alan & Fiona.
