Our latest walk took us south into the Kingdom of Fife for a double‑summit day on the Lomond Hills — though not without a few unexpected twists along the way. The morning began smoothly with a pick‑up and a comfort stop in Dundee. However, after Milnathort we met our first challenge: a road closure blocking access to our planned start point. A second attempt further along brought the same result. It soon became clear that the Loch Leven Half Marathon was underway, with surrounding roads closed until noon — our second encounter with a running event this year. Thanks to the persistence and skill of Kyle, our driver, we eventually reached a minor road that brought us close enough to our intended start near Glenlomond. Twenty‑three walkers set off together, and after two miles the main group began the steep ascent of West Lomond, while three walkers opted for a lower‑level alternative. The weather could not have been kinder. Sunshine and blue skies opened up tremendous views across Fife and beyond. After a well‑timed lunch break at the picnic area — complete with toilets — most of the group continued on to climb East Lomond, enjoying more panoramic scenery from the second summit of the day. The final stretch was a steep descent on a tarred road into Freuchie, where many walkers rounded off the day with refreshments in the hotel beer garden. With tired legs we departed an hour early and reached Aberdeen by 6.30pm. A warm thank‑you goes to Kyle, whose calm expertise and determination ensured the walk went ahead as planned despite a challenging start. Fiona
