O.S.Map 43 (Braemar).

N.B. 8.00am start from Aberdeen.

The walk today takes us back into Deeside to visit Glen Ey, one of the popular glens in this area. Alan Wallace and Alex. Barbour both suggested this walk and your Committee included it in the 2017 Programme. This is a circular walk, so members who require a shorter, or different walk – please indicate your intentions with your committee member in charge of the bus.

The walk commences at the carpark near the entrance of Glen Ey. Head westwards, past the telephone box, over the Ey Burn bridge, turn left and follow the wide path S’wards and then E’wards up the valley of the Allt Christie Beag to where this path peters out just below Carn Liath (818m). Continue on a faint path over two unnamed tops at 788m and 801m to reach the summit of Geal Charn (878m). Head E’wards over an unnamed top at 920m to gain the main summit of Carn Bhac (946m). From this top, head E’wards to pick up a path (not on the 1 in 50,000 map) which heads N’wards below Cairn nan Seilach which eventually turns E’wards to head downhill to the ruin at Achelie. Join the main Glen Ey track heading N’wards to the start point at the entrance to Glen Ey, where our bus will be parked. (NGR 089 892).
